Monday

CONGRATS! This is your last full week of school!

Reading:

- This week we will be listening to a different summer read-aloud each day. Hopefully they will inspire you to create your own summer adventures!

- Today you will listen to Ice Cream Summer by Peter Sis. Pay close attention to the illustrations. See if you can find all the ice cream cones throughout the story!

- After reading, think about what kind of summer you'd like to have. Instead of an "ice cream" summer, what will your summer be all about? When I thought about this, I was thinking I would like to have a Good Book Summer. I am going to try to read as many books as I can this summer and hope to have my nose in a good book at all times. What about you? Are you going to have a Lego Summer, Bike Riding Summer, Baking Summer or something else? How are you hoping to spend your summer days and how will you incorporate learning into them?

- Share your ideas here

Writing:

- This week you will be working on creating a Memory Book from this school year. I know our time in the classroom feels like such a long time ago, but we shared so many special moments and memories together that should be recorded.

- You will work on one page each day and then you can put your book together at the end of the week. Here is a template if you would like to print it out or you can create your own book following the template on five blank pieces of paper if that is easier.

- Today you will design and decorate the cover page of your memory booklet.

Math:

- We are finishing up math for the year by mastering equivalent fractions this week.

- As we learned last week, equivalent fractions fall on the same place on a number line because they represent the same number.

- Practice finding equivalent fractions on number lines here. Once you are all finished, you can check your work with this key

Science:

- This week we are going to combine our knowledge of forces and our creating skills to complete a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Challenge.

- Your challenge for the week is to build a paper airplane. You can design this paper airplane in any way that works for you. Your goal is to design an airplane that can fly.

- Today you will work on the design. All you need is a piece of paper! If you need some ideas, watch this video to get started.

- By the end of today you should try your best to design a paper airplane that flies. Good luck!

Religion:

- This week we are going to reflect on all that we have learned about in religion this year and complete one final project. We have learned about so many parts of our faith, but what is really important is what your faith means to you and how you plan to live out your faith each day.

- Click here to view your final project. You have until Friday to complete this project. On Friday you can turn it in by sending me a picture of you work or a video of you reading your answer. Take some time to reflect and think about this prompt. I am looking forward to hearing all of your unique answers.

Creativity Challenge:

- CHALLENGE:This challenge is a little different than our previous challenges. The past week has been filled with heartbreak as our country is struggling to come together to treat all people, no matter what their skin color is, as equals. People have expressed their emotions and feelings in many ways. My challenge for you is to reflect upon your hopes for our future world as we fight for equality and justice for all people. Your reflection might take the form of a drawing, poem, story, skit, song, prayer, letter, or any other way you hope to share your thoughts.

Tuesday

Reading:

- Today your summer read aloud is How to Code a Sandcastle by Josh Funk. I love this one! As you read, think about the problems and solutions that the main character, Pearl experiences as she works on her sandcastle.

- Pearl has been try all summer to build a sandcastle and she ends up using her coding knowledge to have her robot build one for her!

- If you had a robot, what would you write a code for it to do? I think I would write a code to have my robot make me a fruit smoothie every morning! Talk about the code you would write (and what it would look like) with a family member or write it down.

Writing:

- Today you are continuing on in your Memory Book. You should finish page 2 of your book today.

Math:

- We are finishing up math for the year by mastering equivalent fractions this week.

- As we learned last week, equivalent fractions fall on the same place on a number line because they represent the same number.

- Practice finding equivalent fractions on number lines here. Once you are all finished, you can check your work with this key

Science:

- We are continuing on with our STEM challenge today. Start off by answering questions 1-5 about your paper airplane design here. Tomorrow you will test your design, so make sure you have your final design ready to fly for tomorrow!

Religion:

- Click here to continue working on your final project. You have until Friday to complete this project. On Friday you can turn it in by sending me a picture of you work or a video of you reading your answer. Take some time to reflect and think about this prompt. Wednesday

Reading:

- Today's summer read aloud is The Truth About My Unbelievable Summer by Davide Cali. In this story, a curious teacher wants to hear about summer break. A student responds with an epic tale! What do you think is the truth?

- After listening, I want you to think of your own crazy summer tale! Just like in the story, it can be as UNBELIEVABLE as you want. You can include crazy characters and adventures. In a paragraph, share your summer tale on Boom Writer  under Section 11. You can find your login information here

Writing:

- Today you are continuing on in your Memory Book. You should finish page 3 of your book today.

Math:

- We are finishing up math for the year by mastering equivalent fractions this week.

- As we learned this week, equivalent fractions can be made by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number (a fraction of 1).

- Practice making equivalent fractions here. Once you are all finished, you can check your work with this key

Science:

- It is time to get testing! Take your paper airplane and see how far it can travel. Use a pushing force to throw your paper airplane. You can measure it with a tape measurer if you have one. If not, measure it with your feet! See how many steps your airplane traveled.
- After testing, you'll answer the second half of your STEM challenge reflection. If you need to, test out your airplane again and see what changes would be helpful!

Religion:

- Click here to continue working on your final project. You have until Friday to complete this project. On Friday you can turn it in by sending me a picture of you work or a video of you reading your answer. Take some time to reflect and think about this prompt. I am looking forward to hearing all of your unique answers!

thursday

Reading:

- Your summer read aloud today is And Then Comes Summer by Tom Brenner. In this story, many summer activities are mentioned. The author writes about bike rides, lemonade stands, playing outside, parades, camping, and much more!

- For your activity today, grab a piece of paper and create your own Summer Bucket List. A bucket list is a list of all the things you'd like to do. So grab your paper and pencil and write down all the exciting activities you hope to do this summer. You can look back into the story for inspiration if you need it.

Reading:

- Today is our last full day of school "together."  With this day comes lots of mixed emotions. I know I am excited for summer, but also so incredibly sad to be ending the school year with all of you -- the most amazing students! There are so many things that I will miss this summer, but know that you all have made this year so incredible.

- Your last read aloud brings us full circle. On the very first day of school we read First Day Jitters together. This is a story about Mrs. Sarah Hartwell and her first day as a teacher. She felt very nervous to start the school year and didn't want to go. We thought she was a student, but it turns out she was actually the teacher. In Last Day Blues, we hear about Mrs. Hartwell on her last day of school and how both her and her students are feeling.

Writing:

- Today you are finishing up your Memory Book. You should finish page 5 of your book today. On this page, you can write and draw about your favorite third grade memory. After you've completed all the pages, you can put them together to create your Memory Book.

Math:

- On this last day of math class, you will show your equivalent fraction knowledge by answering these questions here.

- Here are some tips and reminders before you get started!

     * Equivalent fractions are equal in size in a shape model.

     * Equivalent fractions can be found in the same spot on a number line model/

     * Equivalent fractions can be made by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number (a fraction of 1).
