Monday

- The story that you will listen to is a mystery story! Before you listen to the story, review the different elements of a mystery here. Then click here to listen to a read-aloud of What Really Happened to Humpty. As you listen, keep in mind the different mystery elements. 

- After listening, check your understanding to see if could identify some of the mystery elements within the story here

Writing:  

- This week we'll be working on our online writing journals on Boom Writer. You can find your login information here

- Answer Section 5: What do you think are the most important skills or qualities that someone needs in order to be a successful detective? Use at least five complete sentences to answer this question in a complete paragraph. 

​

Math: 

- We are starting off this week by practicing identifying fractions using shapes. Take your time and identify the fraction that is shaded in each of these shapes on this practice page

     *Remember, the top number (numerator) is the number of shaded pieces and the bottom number (denominator) is the total number of pieces that make a whole. 

​

Social Studies:

- Over time, the colonies continued to grow. More and more people came to live in the colonies. These 13 colonies were can be divided into three sections: New England Colonies. Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. Read more about these colonies here.

- After reading, listen to this Flocabulary rap about the 13 colonies and how they were divided into sections. (If you are someone that likes to sing along, press CC in the bottom right corner for subtitles.)

Religion:

- This week we will read Unit 2 Chapter 12: God Calls Us to Holiness.

- You can choose to read it all at once or read a page each day. Whatever works best for you!

Spelling:

- Here are this week's spelling words. These are for you to practice throughout the week and below are some different ways to practice your spelling words. There won't be a quiz at the end of the week, but practicing each week will help you stay on top of your spelling skills!

Reading:

- Start off today with this reflection question.

- Today we are going to explore the Point of View from yesterday's read aloud. From whose perspective is the story told from? Check out this guide to learn more about Point of View and how it relates to our story. 

- From what Point of View do you think What Really Happened to Humpty is told from? 

      *Is it a 1st Person POV? This would mean that a character in the book is telling the story. Or is it a 3rd Person POV? This would mean that a narrator is telling the story. Fill out this form once you have an answer. 

- To finish today's reading work, read through this nonfiction passage, Fictional Detectives

 

Writing: 

- Continue your online journal on Boom Writer. You can find your login information here

- Answer Section 6: Design your own fictional detective. Consider the following questions as you explain your detective. What is this character's name? How old are they? What physical characteristics (appearance) does the detective have? Do they have any special gifts or talents? What is the greatest mystery that she/he has solved?

- Today you should complete the following activities under Topic C:

     * Recognize fractions greater than 1

     * Comparing fractions of different wholes 1

Social Studies: 

- As more colonists came, they took more of the land that belonged to the Native Americans. As you read more about this here, think about the experience from the Native Americans' perspective. How do you think they were feeling? Do you think it was fair that the Native Americans were pushed off their land?

Religion:

- Read this fiction passage, The Case of the Broken Watch. Then answer the comprehension questions. Be sure to use evidence from the text to answer the questions.

- Answer Section 7: Write your own short mystery story with your detective that you created yesterday. Make sure to include some of the mystery elements (crime, suspect, victim, detective, clues) in your story.

- Today you should complete the following activities under Topic C:

     * Comparing fractions of different wholes

     * Fractions of different wholes

Social Studies:

- As the colonies continued to grow, cities and towns became more complex and the colonists took on specialized jobs. Read about these jobs here. Do any of them sound similar to our jobs today?

- Today you will read A Walk Down Memory Lane, a collection of nursery rhymes. As you read, try and make connections to What Really Happened to Humpty. Notice the characters and their personalities. What similarities or differences do you notice?

Writing: 

- Continue working on your online journal on Boom Writer. You can find your login information here

- Answer Section 8: Do you have a favorite nursery rhyme that you read in "A Walk Down Memory Lane?" Explain why it is your favorite and what you enjoy about it. Use at least 5 complete sentences.

Math: 

- We are going to do some extra practice finding fractions on a number line today.

- Watch this video to get started. 

- Then, identify the missing fraction on the number lines here

- Lastly, answer these four number line fraction questions here

 

Social Studies: 

- The colonies continued to grow and grow! However, the colonists were still owned by King George and had to follow his rules. He taxed them more and more and they got upset. They didn't think it was fair that he could control them without the colonists having any voice. Read more about the taxation here

- Then watch this Schoolhouse Rock video that sums up the colonists' situation.
