Monday

Start your day off with the video guide.

Reading:

- Today you will listen to a read-aloud titled The Tree Lady. Before listening, think about this question.

- The story that you will listen to is a biography. This biography is told as a narrative rather than just listing facts. The story has a lot of unique graphics and illustrations that will give you more information as you read. Click here to learn more about the informational graphics. Then click here to listen to a read-aloud of The Tree Lady. As you listen, be sure to look for more information from the graphics and illustrations. (Here's a hint: look at the mail, tree illustrations, and the map!)

Grammar:  

- This week we are going to learn about simple and compound sentences. Check out this guide for an introduction and then watch this video to learn more. 

- After watching, try this activity. Read each sentence and label it as simple or compound.

Math: 

- We are continuing to work on Khan Academy. Your login information can be found here

- Today you should complete the following activities under Topic D:

     * Fractions on a number line video

     * Fractions on a number line widget

     * Relate number lines to fraction bars activity

Social Studies:

- We ended last week with the colonists and King George upset with each other. King George had been taxing the colonists without allowing them to vote or have a voice. The colonists wanted to be free from King George and his rules. They showed their disapproval of his taxes with the Boston Tea Party. We saw this in our video from last week. Read more about it here and then complete the activity.

Religion:

- This week we will read Unit 3 Chapter 15: We Celebrate the Sacraments.

- You can choose to read it all at once or read a page each day. Whatever works best for you!

Spelling:

- Here are this week's spelling words. These are for you to practice throughout the week and below are some different ways to practice your spelling words. There won't be a quiz at the end of the week, but practicing each week will help you stay on top of your spelling skills!

Spelling City: All these games already have the spelling list input, so just choose a game and press play to get started. 

Spelling Choice Board: Choose a different activity from the choice board each day to practice with your list of words. 

- Try out this Spelling Word Unscramble for another way to practice your words! After you finish, you can check your work here

Creativity Challenge:

- Exciting news! We are going to be taking part in a creativity challenge this week. This is to help us use our brains in a different, more creative way and to hopefully inspire you to use your imagination. 

- CHALLENGE: Build a flower from loose parts around your house. You can use anything to create your flower and there is no right or wrong way to create it. Here are some examples. Some individuals used socks, rubix cubes, toy cars, and much more!

- Look around your house for some inspiration and then get started! Once you've created your flower, you can email me a picture of it by the end of the week. I am so excited to see what everyone creates!

Tuesday

- Start off today with this reflection question.

- Today we are going to explore the relationship between Cause & Effect from yesterday's read aloud. Check out this guide to learn more about Cause & Effect and how it relates to our story. 

- What are some examples of cause & effect from The Tree Lady read aloud?

      *Here is one example:

          - Cause: Kate found trees from all over to plant in a dry climate. 

          - Effect: The streets were lined with many trees. 

      *Click here to identify your own examples of cause and effect within the story. 

- To finish today's reading work, read through this nonfiction passage, Balboa Park

- Complete this activity. Read the sentences and decide if they are simple or compound. You can print this out and complete it as a "Cut and Paste" activity or you can write our your own chart in a notebook and write the sentences in the correct column.

Social Studies: 

- The colonists were getting angrier! The Sons of Liberty continued to protest and decided to start a revolution. This means they wanted to break away from Britain for good. Read about it here and then check your understanding with this cause and effect activity

Religion:

- This week we will read Unit 3 Chapter 15: We Celebrate the Sacraments.

- You can choose to read it all at once or read a page each day. Whatever works best for you!

- Watch this video to refresh your memory on the steps and then complete this activity set. You can print this page out or do the work on another piece of paper.

Social Studies:

- The soldiers and the colonists were not getting along. Fighting broke out with "the shot heard around the world." Read about it here and then watch this video

     * Find 1 on the number line video

     * Fractions greater than 1 on the number line exercise

- Catch up day! Use today to catch up on any reading from this week that you haven't read yet.

- If you are caught up or have extra time, you can watch News Quiz like we normally do on Fridays in our classroom.
