Monday

Today is Memorial Day, so there is no work today. I hope everyone enjoys their day and takes time to remember all those that have lost their lives serving our country.

Tuesday

Start your day off with the video guide​.

Reading:

- Today you will listen to a read-aloud titled Humphrey The Lost Whale: A True Story. Before listening, check out this video of humpback whales so that you can better understand the story. 

- Then listen to the read-aloud here. Keep in mind that this is a true story!​

- When telling a true story, we can consider what type of source we are hearing the story from. It could be a primary source or a secondary source. Read more about sources hereHumphrey The Lost Whale: A True Story is a secondary source. We will explore some primary sources tomorrow. 

- After listening, reflect upon this Thinking About Reading Question to finish your reading work. How would YOU have saved Humphrey?

Writing: 

- Today is a brainstorming day! Tomorrow you will write your answer to this prompt on Boom Writer: You just won $1 million! What are you going to do?

- Use today to brainstorm ideas about all the different ways you could use this money. Think about how you would spend the money and why this would be best. Tomorrow you will put your ideas together into a paragraph.

Math: 

- Today we are going to continue practicing placing and identifying fractions greater than one on a number line. 

- Watch this video to get started. 

- Then complete this activity set to practice on your own.

Social Studies: 

- The colonists formerly decided that they wanted to be free from the rules of King George. They wrote this down in the Declaration of Independence. This didn't mean that they were free yet, but it showed that they were going to fight until they were free. Read more about the Declaration of Independence here

Religion:

- This week we will read Unit 3 Chapter 16: Celebrating Eucharist - The Mass.

- You can choose to read it all at once or read a page each day. Whatever works best for you!

Spelling:

- Here are this week's spelling words. These are for you to practice throughout the week and below are some different ways to practice your spelling words. There won't be a quiz at the end of the week, but practicing each week will help you stay on top of your spelling skills!

Spelling City: All these games already have the spelling list input, so just choose a game and press play to get started. 

Spelling Choice Board: Choose a different activity from the choice board each day to practice with your list of words.

Creativity Challenge:

- I was so impressed by all the creative flowers you designed last week! There is another challenge this week and I cannot wait to see how you use your creativity in amazing ways!

- CHALLENGE: Your challenge this week is to build a tower with items in your house that is as tall as you or taller! Once you've built your tower, take a picture of you standing next to it. Good luck!!

Wednesday

Reading:

- Start off today with this reflection question.

- Today we are going to examine some primary sources that tell the same story of Humphrey the lost whale. Take a moment to review the differences between primary and secondary sources with this guide. Then watch this video to learn more. 

- A primary source is document that is created at the time that an event is happening. The people making the document have seen or are experiencing the event. It is not retold later on like in a secondary source. 

- Here are some primary sources from Humphrey's account.

- What do you notice is different or similar between these primary sources and the secondary source (the read-aloud) that you listened to yesterday?

- Finish today's reading with this fiction passage, Whale Watching, and answer the comprehension questions. Be sure to use text evidence to answer the questions.

Writing:  

-  You'll take your ideas that you brainstormed yesterday and turn it into a paragraph. 

- Write your paragraph on your online writing journal using Boom Writer. You can find your login information here

- Answer Section 9: You just won $1 million! What are you going to do? Use at least 5 complete sentences to answer this prompt.

Math: 

- We are going to do some additional practice with placing and identifying fractions greater than one on a number line. 

- Watch this video as a refresher. 

- Then complete this activity set to practice on your own.

Social Studies:

- As fighting broke out, the colonists needed someone to lead them. They were not trained as soldiers, but George Washington was and he agreed to be in charge of the Revolution. After his success as a General, the colonists elected George to be their first president. Read more about George Washington here

- Today you will read the informational book Humpback Whales. Be sure to check the glossary at the end if there are any words you need help with. As you read, see if you can make any connections to the information you are reading to what you already read about Humphrey.

- Today is a brainstorming day! Tomorrow you will write your answer to this prompt on Boom Writer: Describe your favorite Book/TV/Film character.

- Think about who your favorite character is? Why is he/she your favorite character? How would you describe his/her personality, appearance, and special traits?

Math: 

- Today we are going to practice placing various fractions on a number line. Remember to look at the denominator to see how many parts there are between each whole number. 

- Watch this video to get started. 

- Then complete this activity set to practice on your own.

Social Studies: 

- Tomorrow we will have a short quiz over Colonial America and the Revolutionary War. Watch this video as a review and read through any of the past readings here that you need to review.

- Then watch this video about the Last Supper when Jesus first celebrated the Eucharist at Passover with his disciples. 

- Answer this reflection question to finish up the chapter.
